Our database vendor, Elevatesoft, has discovered that AOL's anti-spyware is deleting empty .BLB files because it thinks it has found a trojan adware called "pprich".
For historical reasons, ClipMate creates an empty BLOBIMG.BLB file in its database, and that causes trouble with logging onto the database. Until 7.3 is released (wich can side-step this problem), the fix is to remove the remaining BLOBIMG files (BLOBIMG.DAT and BLOBIMG.IDX) and let the startup routine re-build the whole table.

Elevatesoft is trying to get technical help from AOL. In the meantime, if you have encountered this problem with a product OTHER than AOL AntiSpyware, please reply to this note with the product that you are using.

Thanks!
Chris

This should be cured by ClipMate 7.3.14. Are you running that version or earlier?
The antivirus will still delete the file, but I found a way around it.

Try deleting the BlobIMG files again, re-start, and see if you end up with 3 files - you should.
Let me know.

Your antivirus is interfering with the creation of database temp files. Exclude ClipMate's database directory from your antivirus scan.

I'm getting the same error message but don't use aol. It just started
with Vista, up to date.

trying to restart with shift leads to a menu which is incomprehensible and doesn't offer any help with the specific problem.

You didn't say which antivirus/antispyware you DO use, and the menu is NOT incomprehensible. There's an option on there to restore the database from backup - use it!

You can open the backups with WinZip or any unzipper. Find one that's good, and drag/drop the files into the ClipMate database directory. You're coming in late on another conversation, so I'm just guessing that you're having trouble recovering your data from the backup...
