How do you copy a small amount of text from one clip to another without the whole clip being inserted - ie select text with Ctrl C in one Clip then Ctrl V to insert in another clip pastes ALL of previous clip..not just copied text.

I've tried tacking the window and disabling auto capture without success.

Try tacking again. That's definitely the way to do it.
You'll make a new clip out of the selected text. Then go to the one that you want to paste into, and tack it. Now select that new clip of just the excerpt that you want to paste. Paste into the tacked clip.
In v7, you'll be able to (more) easily drag/drop that new clip into the tacked clip, as you can now position it exactly where you want it.
