Several users have received this message lately:
| Quote: | | This program has been damaged, possibly by a bad sector of the hard drive or a virus. Please reinstall it. |
This error is raised by Armadillo, the protection software that keeps hackers from breaking into the program. It thinks it's under attack, either by an actual virus, or a cracker tool.
Something in the latest version of CA AntiSpyware seems to be triggering this. I've contacted Armadillo, and they're getting a rash of similar reports. They believe that CA has "broken something". If you are receiveing this product, you should report it to CA. It won't get fixed until it makes it onto their radar. One user has opened up a trouble ticket:

CA Support is aware of the issue, and will release an update with fixes in two weeks. They are recommending (at least to the customer that I corresponded with) to disable the "CA Pest Patrol Real Time Protection" for now.
Another user reports that this issue also affected Spyware Blaster and Registry Mechanic, and that they began working correctly after removing the CA real-time scanner. _________________ I'm the ClipMate Guy! |

User B.A. reports:
| Quote: | | I'd just this past day or so been considering for the first time using a root-kit detector program and you've saved me from this aggravation. I've uninstalled CA AntiSpyware. Now ClipMate, Spyware Blaster and Registry Mechanic all open normally. I will most certainly be opening a support ticket with CA regarding this matter, as I've paid for a program I can no longer have on my system due to it's preventing me from using other programs on my system that I've paid for. |

AOL Antispyware uses this (Antispyware by CA) too, in their "Safety and Security Center". So you may need to disable or unisntall it for now. _________________ I'm the ClipMate Guy! |

Update:
I've heard from CA, who says they've fixed the problem and AOL is now aware of the problem and the fix. _________________ I'm the ClipMate Guy! |

News from AOL, paraphrased because it was in a private e-mail sent to another developer, and I don't feel comfortable posting it here.
Essentially, it says:
We know what the problem is, we're fixing it, and we'll be releasing the updated scanner that will be pushed out to users on Monday, Jan 29th.

Greetings.
I am curious if this is a generic windows error. I used a google search string to find this exact error message, but I am not using ClipMate. I probably should, the software looks amazing!
I'm actually trying to run a copy of Dragon Naturally Speaking9 Medical Edition, and I am getting the same error--I realize that I should probably head over to their support forums to receive support from them, but I found it interesting that AOL Security Center would be causing the error with CA, as well as Dragon.
I uninstalled AOL Security Center, Firewall, Virus, Spyware, etc. and I still get the error message. I KNOW you will probably be unable to help me with this software issue, since it's not your software...I am just curious if this error message is a generic windows error.
Two other computers in the medical office work just fine, and neither is running AOL things.
UPDATE/EDIT: It just so happens that they are receiving reports of the same error message. Thank you for your time in reading this message, though I do not believe a response is necessary. |

Everyone should use it!
Here's the deal: CA is causing the error with ANY program that uses "Armadillo" for protection from hackers/crackers. LOTS of programs use Armadillo. Literally thousands of them.
AOL licenses CA for use in their security center. So now the problem is widespread.

Then you didn't uninstall enough of it, or it didn't/doesn't uninstall cleanly. Remnants are still present, still running, and still causing trouble.

|
|
This can also be caused by the Vista Application Compatability Tool (ACT), when running with older versions of ClipMate (6.x and 7.0).
The ACT is a tool that's used to test your portfolio of apps to see if they're going to run on Vista. Well, the testing looks like a hacker attack, triggering the anti-piracy measures. So you can't run ACT with older versions of ClipMate. _________________ I'm the ClipMate Guy! |

As far as I can remember, this has been fixed last year. Maybe February or March. Great job to the support given by this forum. Thanks a lot.
