I've been away from Usenet newsgroups for a long time, and only recently returned to them. When I use Xnews to read a post that contains an image, Clipmate gives the failed capture "slide whistle" sound. (I'm not trying to copy - it happens just by reading the post)

I seem to remember asking about this in the "long ago" past (although I can't find that post) and being told that I could disable Clipmate for specific programs. If true, how do I tell Clipmate not to handle anything XNews is doing?

Edit: I tried unchecking it in App. Profile, but that didn't solve it.

Re-edit: Oops, I was wrong. The slide whistle is the "clipboard erased by app" notification. Is there any way I can tell Clipmate I don't care that XNews erased the clipboard?

How can it NOT care that the clipboard has been erased?
You can turn off the sound, sure. But you can't pretend that it didn't happen.

Of course, you can try to get XNews fixed. There's no reason to zap the clipboard, unless you're actively copying something.

Once I realized what Clipmate was telling me (that it wasn't just a failed copy), I suspected there wasn't much that could be done about it.

There hasn't been a new version of XNews for almost 3 years now, and even that one is referred to as the "test version" on the author's website. So Xnews is what it's always going to be.
