Happy ClipMate user since earliest days. Suddenly I get ERROR message:Error logging onto database...[DBISAM Engine Error # 11010 Table or backup file 'blobpng' does not exist].

All graphics clip titles and numbers show in the appropriate folders but don't display anything in the lower view Explorer window, but a gray background with the text "There is nothing to display" . I disabled antivirus Microsoft Security Essentials for that directory, removed Clipmate 7 via Control Panel's Remove Programs, reinstalled fresh, registered it, tried to restore 3 separate zipped backup databases. They work fine but same thing, no graphics show up, just that "There is nothing to display" text.

I have financial records, years of work, receipts. This is horrible if I cannot get these back. Running Win XP3. Please help.

First, create a copy of your Clipmate data somewhere safe. (I backup on a daily basis.)

Then, have you run the "Database Management" routines?

>>File
>>Database Management

Then pick an option. I would escalate through a Simple to Comprehensive Repair as needed.

Thank you. Yes, I did all that. Nothing changed. I can create new clips of graphics, but nothing shows from the time this disappearance happened.

i have had this happen on my portable device 2x
once when the pc locked up with CM in use
the other time i pulled it out on accident also with CM in use

both instances corrupted my database and i lost much information

the only solution i had for this was to restore from a backup which had most of what was lost as i back up every 10 days

at this point i would hope for your sake you back up regularly

Amen to that.

It may be that ClipMate has been creating regular backups. Unless it was turned off.

To find out go to

Tools >> options >> Database.

If it isn't set to 0 days, and ClipMate hasn't overwritten the last good backup with a copy of the broken database, investigate recovery options.

Thanks for your suggestions, but -- yes I have been making backups. As I said, I've been a ClipMate user since at least Win 3.1. Nothing works.

I have gone back to attempting to the beginning of 2012 and each time I Restore Database From Backup

the backup loads and when finished loading, I get this same message

"Error logging onto database [C:\users\007007\documents\Clipmate Databases] [DBISAM Engine Error #11010 Table or backup file 'bloppng' does not exist]"

The backup restores with the correct folder structure and clip headings but no graphic clips. The section where the actual clip content should be is blank with "There is nothing to display". If I press on an item Clipmate tells me 'image file failed to convert properly for item' and then a number which changes depending on the item I click on.

Okay, so I take that January 2012 backup zipfile on my thumb drive and attempt to retore it to ClipMate on my laptop, which I use but once a month, if that (and which has separate clips on it, not a synced database with my desktop that I've been writing about here). I get that same "Error logging onto database" message as above, when the backup has finished restoring. And the same display of "There is nothing to display."

My reasoning tells me that ClipMate has been making worthless backups all this time, and without alerting me to this. I hope that is not the case with Chris Thornton's product that I've depended upon all these years. What else can I do?

look for a backup bigger than the others

i had that where several backups were corrupted cause my data had corrupted and i hadnt bothered to check in months

you may move your backups uninstall, reinstall
then try loading from backup in the event your instalation has corrupted

have you installed any other software recently that may conflict?

None stand out, they become larger up to the present

I have regularly done database verification and repair, thinking that it was doing its job. As I said, I've been using this program since Win 3.1. It has been my most-recommended utility to others.

Thank you. Yes, I've done all that, removed clipmate and its directories, reinstalled fresh, and have now tried the zipped backupdatabases as far as I can go, which is October 2010! All have these same error messages as mentioned initially, above in this thread, and no graphic displays, no matter what machine I try to restore these backups on -- desktop or laptop!! This is outrageous.

I've trusted this program with precious data and financial records.

Good suggestion. No, none. And that would not account for none of these zipfile database backups not working on other machines with different operating systems (XP3 and Vista).

This is a warning to others. Most of you are very happy and trusting, as I was for all these years. DO NOT TRUST YOUR BACKUPS WITHOUT DOING A RESTORE TEST. YOU WILL GET NO WARNINGS WHATSOEVER AND THINK THEY ARE WORKING FINE. EVEN IF YOU ARE DOING BOTH VERIFICATION (simple repair) and COMPREHENSIVE REPAIRS REGULARLY AS INSURANCE. OUTRAGEOUS!
I am going to warn others about trusting this program when I redo my website. So that they won't go through this past week of hell as I have.
Common sense says it is highly unlikely that I am the only person in the world who will experience this eventual failure.

Perhaps I should "count my blessings" that I haven't lost all the text clips as well. ; )

This raises an issue that hit me recently.

I looked at what ClipMate was holding and found all sorts of stuff that had accumulated over the years. It was probably for good reason, but much of it seemed to be outside my usual collections.

I went an manually eliminated a load of junk that did not need.

So, while ClipMate has built-in housekeeping tools, there is no harm in a manual check from time to time.

Look at the "virtual folders" and see what you can ditch.
